The vase was created by the world-renowned Finnish architect Alvar Aalto in 1937 for Iittala, for the World Fair in Paris, where it won a design price.

The shape of the vase was inspired by the Finnish landscape and lakes. It became deservedly a synonymous with Finnish glass art and with Iittala. Every single Alvar Aalto vase is mouth-blown and hand-finished by master glassblowers.

It is also exhibited in some of the world’s most important design museums.
